How does 2061 pick up sound?
The sound of 2061 is natural and lifelike. It is designed to accurately capture the human voice, with a high level of fidelity and intelligibility and minimal colouration. With its omnidirectional pickup pattern, it captures sound equally well from all directions, which is beneficial in minimizing the issues related to microphone positioning and movement. The major difference in relation to competitors is that 2061 has a flat frequency curve with a soft 3 dB boost at 8 kHz – 16 kHz. It is not pre-tailored to compensate for any particular position where a lavalier microphone is normally used. With this approach, a sound engineer can achieve authentic sound from any position.
What cartridge type is used in 2061?
The 2061 is a pre-polarized condenser microphone. It has a new and specifically designed capsule in a 5 mm (0.2 in) housing built on existing DPA technology that has been simplified and targets the best possible performance in the effective frequency range 50 Hz – 16 kHz.
Does 2061 have the same capsule as 4061?
No. Although it uses some of the same elements and design principles of the 4000 Series, 2061 uses a completely new capsule construction.
Does 2061 have Legacy technology inside?
Even though we have the letter L in the product ID that normally stands for Legacy, we have designed a completely new circuit. It has been inspired by the old Legacy technology in terms of THD performance, but we have modernized it to meet current requirements of compatibility with a wide range of wireless systems.
Example of the product ID:
2061-OL-C-F03
Does 2061 incorporate CORE by DPA technology?
No, the applications that 2061 is aimed at allowing us to simplify the electronics and create impressive performance within a narrower scope. These mics provide a high level of performance that is necessary in broadcast studios and ENG, theatres, houses of worship, event venues, and, in general, various content creation situations. Microphones with CORE by DPA technology have advanced electronic design that allows for higher sound pressure handling capabilities, so they can be used for a wider application range and for more challenging situations. This means that the miniatures with CORE have less distortion than 2061 at all sound pressure levels.
For example, 1% THD for 4061 is 137 dB peak, and the same value for the 2061 is 128 dB peak.
What is the best placement for 2061?
2061 exhibits an accurate omnidirectional pattern and therefore does not need to be aimed directly at the sound source to achieve quality pickup. This grants sound designers the freedom to capture ideal sound regardless of microphone positioning on a subject. Designed as a versatile microphone for capturing the human voice, 2061 remains neutral to placement, allowing engineers to shape its response through EQ. What is the polar pattern of 2061?
2061 is an omnidirectional microphone.
What is the frequency response of 2061?
The frequency response is defined between 20 Hz – 20kHz, but as with other DPA mics, we also state the Effective Frequency Range ±3 dB between 50 Hz – 16kHz with a 3dB soft boost at 8 kHz to 16 kHz. The lift at 8 kHz adds brilliance and air to the signal.
The Effective Frequency Range defines the frequency range in which the microphone does not deviate by more than a specific amount from the ideal response curve.
What is the cable diameter for 2061?
The cable has a diameter of 1.6 mm (0.06 in). We use the same cable type for 2061 as on our regular 4000 and 6000 Series. Since the cable is a crucial part of the microphone in many aspects, we have decided to use the cable that has proven its durability. Reinforced with Kevlar and with a long and flexible strain relief at both ends, the cable has exhibited solid resilience against physical stress.
What is the cable length for 2061?
The cable length is 1.5 m (4.9 ft). Cable length for the 4000 and 6000 Series is 1.8 m (5.9 ft). MicroDot variants can be extended with extension cables.
What variants are available for 2061?
2061 comes in four colours: black (with clip), white (with clip), beige (mic only) and brown (mic only). For each colour, there are three connector options: 3-pin LEMO, TA4F or Mini-Jack.
Does 2061 have replaceable parts?
No. The 2061 cap is glued on and cannot be removed or replaced. Additionally, only versions with fixed connectors are available. If the high-boost feature or the flexibility of exchanging the adaptors for various wireless systems is needed, the 4061 Miniature Microphone is an excellent alternative.
Are there different versions of the cap (high- or soft-boost grid) available for 2061?
No. 2061 is made with a fixed and non-replaceable cap.
2061 is IP57 certified. What does that mean?
2061 has been tested against the international standard IEC 60529:2013 edition 2.2: “Degrees of protection provided by enclosures (IP Code)” resulting in an IP57 rating:
First digit: Solid particle protection = class 5 Ingress of dust does not interfere with the functionality of the microphone and will produce no permanent harmful effects.
Second digit: Liquid ingress protection = class 7 Temporary immersion in water will produce no permanent harmful effects. Note that the frequency response and sensitivity will be naturally affected by the water during submersion.
IP57 certification allows for easy cleaning of the microphone.
How do I clean 2061?
Our miniature microphones are built to last - and to sound their absolute best from day one and onwards. However, cleaning your mic sometimes is a good idea. Just make certain that you do it
gently and follow the below steps carefully.
To clean the 2061, rinse it in demineralized water, and wipe it gently with a damp cloth. To clean these mics properly, all foam windscreens should be removed. This allows for a proper rinse and for the water to evaporate fully when drying out. No cleaning fluids should be used - you will only need demineralized water.
Afterwards, leave the microphone to dry for 72 hours (about 3 days) before reuse. Some germs die at elevated temperatures, and it is possible to leave the mics in the oven at 60°C (140° F) for an hour (please note, this will age the microphone slightly).
To disinfect the 2061, use a cloth moistened sparingly with an isopropyl alcohol and water solution* to wipe them down on their surface. This also applies to headsets, clips, booms, grids and adapters.
You can also use UV-C radiation to disinfect the 2061 microphones. If you use this solution, please use a DUA0591 Makeup Cover to protect 2061.
Please note that UVGI (ultraviolet germicidal irradiation) disinfection depends upon line-of-sight, which means that the microphone head must be otherwise disinfected by e.g., wiping it off with an isopropyl alcohol solution as described above.
*Pure isopropyl alcohol evaporates too quickly on surfaces to kill germs. By adding 20% water, its disinfectant properties will be extended for enough time to work properly.

Remember: The sound of a microphone cannot be determined solely by its specifications – it is only part of the story. In audio tests, DPA's quality will become clear, especially when compared directly with our competitors.
How is 2061 different from the competition?
2061 is a great miniature microphone – a worthy competitor to the very well-known and widely used competitor models, performing on par with them on many parameters. The major difference between 2061 and many competitors is that 2061 has a flat frequency curve, which is not pre-tailored to compensate for positioning. With this approach, the sound engineer can achieve the purest authentic and uncolored sound regardless of the mic’s placement. Additionally, 2061 electronics have been optimized for consistent performance across the most popular wireless systems.
Is 2061 as durable as other lavalier mics on the market?
2061 is extremely durable - we did not compromise on any durability aspects compared to the rest of the DPA miniature range. Users will experience the same level of durability, reliability and repairability as for other DPA miniature microphones. The cable is reinforced with Kevlar and has a long and flexible strain relief at both ends, exhibiting solid resilience against physical stress. IP57 certification and great sweat repelling capabilities ensure that the mic stays in action during and after the performance and can be easily cleaned with water.
